LOS ANGELES – Gobbling up another opponent, the Wild Turkeys basted the Eclectic Eccentrics in a 21-13 massacre to improve their record to 3-0. The bombastic Turkey onslaught featured 26 total hits and seven homeruns, including two from Sean. Six Turkey batters poured on the gravy by going three-for-three: Gerardo, Jose, Bartt, Sean, Sam and Mark. The poultryÕs savagery was interrupted in the fifth inning by the 10-run rule, which cost the terrifying Turkeys an out.
The game was highlighted by stellar defense at second base by the Turkey tandem of Nancy and Meera, and Bill made a sparkling defensive play at third base while adding two hits and scoring two runs. HannahÕs flawless fielding at first base included the second half of a 7-3 double-play begun by the rocket-armed Gerardo, who made a gymnastic running catch in left field before firing to Hannah to complete the twin killing.
On offense, speedy newcomer Yvonne raced down the line to reach base in the second inning, while her husband Bartt stretched his hitting streak to seven hits in seven at-bats. Mike and Phil each contributed two base hits, and Rich hit a homer and scored two runs. Tim was the winning pitcher, holding the hapless Eclectics to a total of one meager run during his two innings on the mound.
Bidding to become the first undefeated team in Turkey history, the Wild ones will play next Wednesday before another sold-out crowd of toddlers, plastic bats and mosquitoes. Game time is 5:30.
