This was the second meeting of the Turkeys and the LAMP Fringes...same result both times with a Turkey win. We are now 5-4 for the season. After having lost the first 4 games of the season, we're on a streak. And the furture looks rosey...not to tempt fate. We survived the early part of the season to be joined at this point by our contingent of summer interns and new hires. And as usual everyone has skills. Watch out for the Turkeys as the season progresses. This week we were joined by Maggie, Sarah, and Josh. Maggie has been a part of the Turkey family for the past two years, but has spent all of that time as a spectator and never a player. (Note that Maggie is most famous for her sideline cheers, one of which has been recorded for posterity...see the videos page for her cheer.)This year she has decided to play on the field, and we're happy she did. She clobbered one out of the infield and "was flawless" on defense. Sarah comes to us from Idaho where she is a senior mechanical engineer (as is Maggie). She was humble at the begining of the game, but from the looks of it, Mark and Jose might loose their positions at shortstop if they don't watch out. Josh is a welcome addition to the squad and was immediately put into action in right field where he had to fight off the sun. He could be heard quietly bemoaning the fact that once the sun went down he was no longer assigned to that positon! We had an opportunity to get a team photo at the start of the game, unfortunately missing many of our regulars (Rich, Judy, Nancy, Phil, Matt, and Erisa).

The game went like clockwork, with the Turkeys playing some of the best defense ever seen. There wasn't a single inning where they were able to score at will. Our bats, on the other side of it, were working efficiently. As a result we were soon up by 10 runs and having to accept an out at the begining of our at-bat. Soon we were up by 15 runs having to take two outs at the beginng of that inning. It was Tim's unfortunate position to be the one and only batter that inning. Gerardo once again showed that youth makes up for lack of experience, being strong both on defense and offense. Everyone had an opportunity to show their skills, and there were barely a handful of the typical C-league errors.

After the game, there were 13 of us heading off to a dinner of pizza, soda and beer. We had a great time and got to know our new teammates...and they got to know us. I'm already planning on their continued participation, having added them to our players page. During dinner, Maggie was either called by...or called Justine, who had played with us last year. Mark jumped on the phone and begged Justine to quit what she was doing and come to California for some softball fun. We all miss her playing with us. But alas, she's busy working with I Robot where she is also playing softball...but surely not having as much fun as us.

The box score and the offense/defense sheets will be added to this report in the next days. Until then you all get ready for the next game. We'll see you there!!
