The Wild Turkeys went back into action against the Dawgs / Frawgs after a week off over the Fourth of July. This was our first game at Hahamongna Park, which name means "flat meadow where horsehide rolls" in the language of the Tongva Indians.

The Turkeys engaged the Dawgs in a back-and-forth slugfest that the Dawgs finally won 23-22. Playing on a dirt infield for the first time this season, the Turkeys banged out an unprecedented 31 hits and held leads until the sixth inning, when the Dawgs scored seven batters in a row, taking a six-run lead. The Turkeys struck back with five runs in the top of the seventh, but fell just a run short. Nearly every one of our fifteen players had a hit; Gerardo, Joe, Debbie, Matt, and Tim each had three hits; (ed. Tim had a 3 RBI hit...see the pictures for the story) and Mark took offensive honors going 4 for 4 and scoring four runs. Gerardo and Jose each had home runs. Jack was very quiet trying to keep up the scorebook in the face of continuous action, (ed. all the while looking forward to beer and pizza) and has decided he needs to go to another conference to take a rest.

On defense, Jose (spearing a liner) and Matt (sliding catch in left (ed. getting all too common) ) received stars for their efforts. Jose (two put-outs and four assists), Debbie (four put-outs at first), Mark (three put-outs and one assist), and Hannah (three put-outs) tried to keep the barking Dawgs at bay.

We again had some new faces on the roster, as Tess McEnulty is back at JPL as a regular employee (312), and she brought along Justine Rembisz, who is a summer student (337) from Carnegie Mellon. After the game, eleven Turkeys gathered at Round Table for pizza, beer, and conversation. The questions of the week were "Why do we buy a veggie pizza? Is there a secret vegetarian in our midst?"

Mark and Jose were declared Turkeys of the Week for their offensive and defensive efforts. (ed. Yay! Mark as a TOTW!)
