Just a short note to say...what a game! We had plenty of fun tonight against the Bruisers, ultimately winning in the third meeting of these two fun lovin' teams. There was plenty of action with many hits, lots of runs, and some great fielding. We showed up with lots of players...as usual. We were missing Hannah who ultimately arrived in the last inning to get a chance to play first in her work clothes. What a sport. Then it dawned on us that she was really there for the cheap dinner! Well...who cares? She came anyway. On the other hand, for a part time player Matt again showed up to be our steady "fight the sun" right fielder. He's been to nearly all of the last 10 games or so and has made significant difference to both our offense (speeding around the bases for another homer) and defense (making the difficult catches look routine). Hitting was good all around with Tess getting on base several times, once with an opposite field hit! And Debbie crushed a stand-up double...one of several this season. Is it my imagination or is Tim actually getting down the baseline in shorter time than before? Nope...just my 'magination. With Jose out of town for the remainder of the season, Jon filled in for some shortstop duties, making plays and doing good for himself.
No game is a real Turkey game without the halarity. And tonight it was Mark's loud enchoragement to Nancy to go home on his sweet triple...which should have just been a double. Yep...you guessed it. While Mark was steaming around the bases with Nancy approaching third and Rich (coaching the third base runners) giving her the stop sign, Mark just kept going. Nancy heeded not Rich's sign, instead depending on Mark's good judgment. Big mistake. Unfortunately she was caught cold at home for the easy tag out leaving Mark at third and not wanting to return to the team sideline anytime soon. What's a game without Mark yelling "Run Nancy, Run!!!"?
Jack's review of the scorebook suggested Mark as either defensive or offensive Turkey of the Week...Sam will have to go over it for the final decision. Many other's played outstanding including Chris' catch in center early in the game, Matt tracking balls through the sun, Tess' attempt to gun 'em out at first from her position in shortfield, and her fantastic catch of the high pop-up while she played catcher, Tim's quick reactions at pitcher, Matt's exciting home run, Debbie's double, etc., etc., etc.
The game ended up with the Turkeys winning by the score of 23-14, making it 3 games to 0 in all our meetings against the Bruisers this year. We're not letting up...but the Turkeys will have their first winning season in...um...geeze...I dunno...quite a few years!
