Sam, being Sam, has developed a method for transcribing scores from a standard baseball/softball scorebook into a shorthand that captures, in precise, compact text form, the offensive plays. He can put this text into an Excel spreadsheet and (at some future time) develop a way of calculating the standard statistics that players have come to know and love. However, since this shorthand is uniquely Sam's, he has graciouisly provided a Syntax Primer so that us average humans can figure out what went on during the game...those of us that care anyway.
So, each game report (from the Game at a Glance) will include the offense of our team. Maybe later I'll include the offense of the other team, which when taken with the our defensive lineup would allow us to find our errors and figure out who committed them. Oh what fun...
Here's the syntax...in a nutshell:

| There's a "playline" for every batter on every at bat. |
| Each playline describes everything that happened to the batter/runner. |
| Each slash '/' denotes one (successful) base advance. |
| A pound sign '#" denote a run scored. |
| A period '.' means that the batter/runner was put out. |
| Commas ',' separate what happens on successive plays, i.e., plays happening on different batters' at-bats. |
| A plus sign '+' separates two or more sub-components of the same play. |
| A right bracket ']' denotes the end of an inning. |
| Playlines also include standard "play description" notations: |
| Fn' denotes a fly ball caught by fielder#n. |
| n-m' denotes a grounder to fielder#n followed by a throw to fielder#m. |
| 1B', '2B', '3B','HR' denote hits (single, double, triple, home run). |
| etc. |
| Each play description appears only once, on the most appropriate playline. |
