Toads Strafe Turkeys, 35-13, with Air Support

Tonight the Wild Turkeys suffered through one of all-time worst thumpings, at the hands of a Voodoo TOAD Fury team with more than 40% women in its lineup. The game was respectable until the Turkeys were apparently spooked by the Toads' air support. The Turkeys still held a 4-3 lead after the first three Toads batted in the bottom of the 2nd. But then a Sheriff's Dept helicopter landed at Hahamongna to stage a demonstration rescue operation for some Girl Scouts. We suspended our game for a few minutes while the helicopter's wake stirred up dust and knocked over all our cones.

Once we resumed, we hardly ever retired the Toads for the remainder of the game. Throughout the entire game, we only recorded a total of 10 outs on defense. These 10 outs were remarkably distributed throughout our defensive alignment. Every fair-territory position got exactly one putout, except for CF which had two (both by JimD, one rating a * in Jack's scoresheet). The Toads only made one out on a ground ball, and that play also rated a *. In sum, outs against the Toads were really hard to come by, because they consistently hit hard line drives in all directions.

Offensively, Sam's streak of consecutive outless ABs ended at 21, on a 4th-inning liner to one of the Toads' superwomen (Lori) at SS. Gerardo still holds the all-time team record at 25, but this is a team record in the 60+ age category. Sam's streak of 8 consecutive outless games (3rd game through 10th game this season) may also be a team record. Notable outless streaks throughout our team's history (as remembered by Sam) include:

Undoubtedly there are additional lengthy outless streaks from out team's 30-year history that also belong on the list above (besides those that Sam remembered to look for). Everyone on the team is challenged to scour through our past records to find other streaks of around 20 or more consecutive outless ABs that other players may have achieved. Or, better yet, put yourself on this list with your own outless streak next year! [Definitions: An outless AB is defined as one that does not result in the batter being put out before reaching 1st base, or another baserunner being put out on a fielder's choice. An outless game is a game in which all of the batter's ABs are outless.]
