*To read the play-by-play game summary, you will have to learn Sam's syntax for describing the play-by-play action.
Shucks! Another loss. We all showed up early full of vimm and vinegar...or something like that. The TOADs didn't show up until nearly 5:45...just before Sam was ready to declare victory. We all got warmed up and were ready to play.
We were in this game as much as we ever were agains the TOADs. The difference seemed to be their ability to end our comebacks with one or two fantastic plays. In particular, Matt was robbed of what would have certainly been an extra bases hit (probably a triple) in the late innings. His hit was off the bat like a rocket...only to be snagged by an ever alert...and somewhat lucky first baseman. Adding to this hitting effort, Matt made some of the beautiful plays on defense in right field. His ability to run, pull in the grounder and then throw to first in a smooth series of motions is impressive. The pictures tell the story...and the video shows it even better. Gerardo also continued to show why he's been a two-time Turkey of the Week with a beautiful throw from the left field after a fly-out to home plate to catch the runner who had foolishly tagged up from third hoping to beat the throw. He was 4-for-4 at the plate and has an impressive hitting streak going. And, after hitting twice in somewhat lackluster efforts, Mark finally ripped one for a Grand Slam! As said by Sam, "That was one that got the crowd on their feet". It sailed way over the heads of the outfield. Defensively, we played well, with no more errors than the TOADs. Hannah continued to show an ability to move to the ball and stop it at second base. Meera was sooo close in getting outs on a couple of hard liners in her direction. James played well, hit well, and ran well...and continues to be the quiet teammate.
I'll write more after I've had a chance to reflect on the night, which ended with us gathering at round table pizza. There were 13 players in the game, and 10 showed up for dinner of pizza, soda and beer. We love the game of softball...as long as that game is defined as some kind of sporty thing followed by the get-together afterwards!
The final score was 11-17. All in all an excellent result against this tough team. See the pictures and videos that have already been posted.
