Turkeys Win Rematch with Goats in 17-16 Thriller

Tonight the Wild Turkeys and Goat Scouts played another exciting one-run game that was almost a mirror image of our earlier game this season won by the Goats, 22-21. This time the Goats jumped to a big 9-0 lead in the top of the 1st, but the Turkeys rallied to even the score at 11-11 after 3 innings. Thereafter the game seesawed, and the score going into the 6th and final inning was tied again at 15-15.

This game was decided in the final inning which featured outstanding defensive plays and errors by both teams, and one grand finale home run which only counted as a double since the game ended when the winning run scored. In the top of the 6th, the Goats went ahead 16-15 and were threatening to add more. But their next baserunner was thrown out at home on a long relay throw from Gerardo (LF) to Bartt (3B) to Sam (C), a play that inspired Jack to give *s to all three Turkeys involved in the relay. Still, that meager one-run lead appeared to be sufficient for a Goats' victory, because the Turkeys' first two batters in the bottom of the 6th were retired on two fine defensive plays that also rated *s on Jack's scoresheet. One more out and we were done. But then in rapid succession, Mike and Yvonne reached base on errors, Andre singled to drive in Mike with the tying run, and Bartt hit a prodigious walk-off home run that only counted as a double since only Yvonne's run was needed to win the game.
