Turkeys Lose Finale to Bruisers Augmented by Turkeys, 16-14
recap by Sam
This game might qualify technically as a forfeit by the Bruisers, since they only had 7 players on hand at the start. So we loaned them Jack, plus a woman or two from our lineup on a rotating basis (whoever was sitting out for us when the Bruisers were batting, and whoever was far down in our batting order when the Bruisers were on defense). Two more (male) Bruisers arrived not too long after the game started, but the Bruisers also kept their loaner Turkeys for the remainder of the game. It's not really fair to call this a forfeit (since the Bruisers had 9 players of their own, including 2 women, by a not-too-unreasonable time). But it also doesn't go down as a pure Turkeys vs Bruisers game. Instead, we call this game Turkeys vs Bruise-keys!
The game itself was closely contested and a lot of fun. The Turkeys held a narrow 8-7 lead after 4 innings, with only enough daylight remaining for one very long 5th inning. The Bruise-keys erupted for 9 runs in the top half of the final inning to take a commanding 16-8 lead. The Turkeys contemplated dallying enough that darkness would halt the game before we finished batting in the bottom of the 5th (so the final score would revert to the previous inning). Nearly mission accomplished, as we staged a big rally of our own to 16-14 with only one out. At that point we were pretty confident that we'd either get three more runs quickly to win 17-16, or else we'd run out the clock and win 8-7 by the score from the previous inning. But the Bruise-keys settled down and retired two of our next three batters on long fly balls. Season over, just as darkness descended.
